Dyn attack = a sign of things to come

Interesting, scary, small potatoes… 

The internet was under attack.. several countries felt the impact but supposedly the United States was the target of the attack on Dyn DNS service provider on Friday October 21, 2016. 

In his book Inevitable, Kevin Kelly talks about an event where the internet is down for only 24 hours and yet the shock will be felt for multiple years… Friday, October 21, 2016, was not that attack. This was “small potatoes”. Yet it is another piece of foreshadowing that the “big potatoes” event is on the horizon.

Kelly states that as technology solves our problems it also creates new ones. Every answer, spawns 6 more questions. With every piece of technology developed for good, someone will find a way to criminalize it. 

The live camera feeds in my house solved a problem of being able to check in on my dog, Lady, (development for good) but those same IoT devices were leveraged to execute the Dyn attack (criminalized).

Every rose has its thorn…
