Why I cut the cord again

Why I cut the cord again

Cord cutters - those that cancel their subscription to cable in favor of OTT services like Netflix or Hulu.

Cord nevers - those that have never had a cable sub

Cord returners - those that became a cord cutter but then went back to a cable provider.

What do you call the people who cut the cord, then become a cord returner, but then cut the cord again.

We did it before and now we are doing it again. The first time we cut the cord, we lived in chicago and we were going out to eat several times a week, going to events, and we decided that there wasn’t anything on cable that we couldn’t wait the two days for it to come out on an OTT service such as Hulu.

So we cut the TV portion of our subscription. At the time the math around the change saved us $60/month.

In the two years we were members of the cord cutting category, there were 6 times where we couldn’t find the live content we wanted to watch (via antenna or one of the live streaming apps. One was the Super Bowl (streaming app crashed), one was a influential 2016 cubs regular season game. The other 4 weren’t important enough to remember to this day.

We remained in the cord cutter category until we moved out of the city and on from the “downtown life”. When moving to our version of “suburbia” we signed up for cable as a part of our new slower lives.

Add a kid to that math... and now again the need for cable is in question.

Throw in the improved content options on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and others and the math starts to become clearer.

What about live sports? YouTube TV has most of the major channels which “the big games” would be on. In fact, I became aware of YouTube TV’s offering because of “a smaller game” where my Indiana Hoosiers played Ball State in the first game of the season (it was big in my eyes). Sooo cable, its your own fault I’m cutting yet again.

But ya never know, things may slow down after she graduates high school, so maybe see ya around.
